Audio description workshop: Exploring Artist Sketchbooks

20 March 2017 at 14.00–16.00
Purple and blue colour washes from a page in Turner's sketchbook

Joseph Mallord William Turner
Colour Trials 1791

Experiment, explore and create

The artist’s sketchbook is a place for experimenting, exploring techniques, recording or gathering material of ideas and inspiration. It is a complex and creative tool to take notes and make sketches – it is a space to be both messy and creative. This workshop is designed specifically for blind and partially sighted participants.  Using a range of materials this practical workshop will give participants the opportunity to consider the idea of the artist’s sketchbook through practical exploration. We will discuss the importance of the sketchbook and draw on ideas and tactile objects that might get our own artist sketchbooks started.

Open to all abilities, this is a specialist workshop for blind and partially sighted participants. Materials and refreshments provided. The workshop will be led by arts practitioner Caroline Dawson and fully supported by a trained audio describer.  Up to one sighted companion per participant and guide dogs are welcome.

Limited places available. Please contact Anna Murray, Assistant Curator, Access: anna.murray@tate.org.uk or call +44 (0)20 7887 8888 to book a place or if you would like to let us know if you have any other access needs
