See art brought to life in this exclusive musical performance by Welsh singer Meilyr Jones

Following last year’s critically acclaimed debut album 2013, and live performances at Glastonbury, Latitude, Green Man and End of the Road, Jones debuts a new piece inspired by and performed in front of John Singer Sargent’s painting Carnation, Lily, Lily, Rose.

Jones first noticed the painting as a postcard that his sister-in-law had put up in her home, commenting ‘the more I have seen it, the more I love it’.

This is the first time Jones has composed a piece of contemporary classical music on which he has worked closely with collaborator Joseph Davies, who he worked with on the album 2013.

The piece is performed by a group of twelve musicians, including a clarinetist and harpist, and conducted by Jones.

The ensemble plays Jones’s music in front of Carnation, Lily, Lily Rose in Gallery 9 spontaneously throughout the afternoon in an experience not-to-be missed.
