The artist is often seen as an expert in a particular area, which they then adapt in their practice. In this series of films, the artist is seen as an amateur in the new skills he or she acquires through the use of expert guidance. Kathryn Elkin’s video Why La Bamba (2015) becomes a meditation on roleplaying and the talk show format. Florian Klette’s, Jockey dansen (2009) depicts the artist learning ballet dancing in the context of an exhibition at the Heidelberg Kunstverein. Christian Nagler and Azin Seraj set of participatory performances, Market Fitness (2011-12), experimented with how to respond physically to the scale and opacity of global finance.
