Inspired by Tracey Emin’s seminal work, ‘My Bed’, currently on display at Tate Liverpool, Bedlam! is a short animation film created by children and young people who are patients on Ward 4A at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital in Liverpool.
Led by the media charity, Twin Vision, patients have made a piece which explores their ideas about beds, what their own bed means to them and how their beds might take them on a magical journey to another place.
Made over a period of four months, children and young people have been involved in all aspects of the film production, from writing the film script, to making models and sets, to filming and providing the voice over. Bedlam! is a funny and moving account straight from the imagination of children who have experienced life in a hospital bed.
If you want to try your hand at making your own animation, join Twin Vision for an animation workshop and learn about one of the earliest forms of animation, the Victorian optical toy zoetrope. Get inspired by the Tate Exchange display and make your own zoetrope to take home. 9 August, 13.00–15.00.
