Moral Tales Thatcher's Britain

29 March 1994 – 2 January 1995

Moral Tales is a fascinating selection of works drawn from the Tate collection. Focusing on 'Thatcher's Britain' of the 1980s, it is of immediate and universal appeal.

With works by Gilbert & George, Hans Haacke, Ian Hamilton Finley, Tony Cragg, Conrad Atkinson, Stephen Willats, Sonia Boyce and Richard Hamilton, the exhibition touches on unemployment, urban planning, racism, Northern Ireland and the arms-race.

David Miller of the Glasgow University Media Unit, Roger Phillips of BBC Radio Merseyside and Lola Young, Lecturer in the Cultural Studies Department at Middlesex University have been invited to draw upon their own experiences to interpret the works of art. Their perspectives have been incorporated into an 'interactive structure' from which visitors can both view the works on displays whilst absorbing a variety of individual interpretations to test against their own.
